Time Wasters, Soul Wasters
By Jackie Overstreet • December 11, 2025

Discernment is how you guard tomorrow from yesterday’s distractions.
When someone shows you their rhythm, stop dancing to it
There comes a moment in your life when “busy” stops feeling admirable and starts feeling suspicious.
The older I get, the clearer it becomes that time wasters aren’t always loud or dramatic.
Most of them come disguised as convenience, as familiarity, as friendship, as “I’m just checking in.”
Here’s what I mean.
Some people would rather text for days than take three minutes for a real conversation.
Some withhold connection the moment you don’t respond the way they prefer.
Some expect you to stretch yourself thin for their comfort while giving little to nothing in return.
This isn’t about blame.
This is about discernment.
Because when you start paying attention, you notice something:
Timewasters are rarely about time.
They are about misalignment.
And misalignment, if left unchecked, becomes a form of spiritual erosion.
Distraction comes in many forms, but the enemy’s strategy is always the same:
Chip away at your focus until you forget what you were building.
That’s why Soul Esteem matters here.
Soul Esteem teaches you to separate emotion from assignment.
To look at the moment and ask,
“Is this pulling me toward God or pulling me away from the work He gave me?”
Because emotions respond quickly, but wisdom responds accurately.
There’s a Scripture that pierced me differently this year:
“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom.”
Most people hear that and think it’s about salvation.
Look again.
It’s about focus.
It’s about assignment.
It’s about forward motion.
It doesn’t mean the people around you aren’t fit for the kingdom.
It means the habit of looking back isn’t.
The habit of overexplaining.
The habit of fixing what broke itself.
The habit of pouring into places God already emptied.
Soul Esteem whispers something different:
Keep your hand on the plow.
Keep your eyes on the harvest.
Let distraction fall behind you like dust.
This is not about becoming cold, guarded, or unavailable.
It’s about becoming wise.
Be wise. Be vigilant. Guard your spirit.
The enemy is not creative, but he is consistent.
He will use whoever he has to, however he can, to shift your gaze off your God-given path.
So take your peace back.
Anchor your days in discernment.
And remember this:
Time is a seed.
Sow it where the fruit matches your future.
Focus Point: Time is a sacred resource. Discernment is how you stop handing it out like it’s free.
